A selection of spaces shaped with care, purpose and imagination

01 / Healthcare

Healthcare Interior Transformation

This project began with an urgent brief: to convert an underutilized, open space shell into a fully functional healthcare facility—while introducing a sense of calm, dignity, and contemporary elegance.

Guided by a wellness-inspired palette of sage greens, soft neutrals, and warm wood tones, the design reimagines the healthcare experience as one that is both efficient and emotionally considered. The spatial planning accommodates a reception and waiting area, GP consultation rooms (including emergency rooms), an IV drip nook, dispensary, kitchenette, and bathrooms—all carefully zoned for intuitive flow and privacy.

The concept phase focused on softening the rigidity of the existing structure. Arched thresholds, layered lighting, and tactile materiality were introduced to create a more fluid and welcoming environment. Subtle biophilic elements and curated finishes bring warmth and identity, moving away from traditional clinical aesthetics.

During implementation, these ideas were translated with precision—sculpted bulkheads, integrated lighting, and controlled colour applications began to define the space. Even in progress, the transformation revealed a clear shift from sterile to serene.

The result is a healthcare environment that balances functionality with emotional intelligence—designed not only to serve, but to reassure and restore.

02 / Community project

Paediatric Oncology Playrooms

Polokwane — concept translated to practical execution

This project was rooted in a deeply meaningful brief: to transform existing hospital playrooms into immersive, joy-filled environments for children living full-time in oncology wards. In collaboration with Reach for a Dream, and with the generous support of Truworths (Polokwane) and SGS South Africa (Tygerberg), the design set out to create spaces that offer not only play, but emotional refuge.

The existing environments were functional yet visually subdued—lacking the stimulation, warmth, and imagination essential for young minds navigating prolonged medical journeys. The design response sought to reframe these spaces as worlds of escape, creativity, and comfort.

Conceptually, each playroom was envisioned as a narrative landscape. In Polokwane, bold geometric expressions, playful archways, and layered colour blocking introduced energy and movement. In Tygerberg, a softer yet equally vibrant language emerged—featuring whimsical forms, rainbow motifs, and interactive elements that encourage exploration and engagement.

Across both spaces, colour became a therapeutic tool—carefully balanced to uplift without overwhelming.

Spatial planning prioritized flexibility, visibility, and inclusivity. Zones for play, creativity, and quiet retreat were seamlessly integrated, ensuring that children—regardless of energy level or condition—could engage with the space in their own way. Custom joinery, tactile surfaces, and child-scaled elements reinforced both safety and delight.

During implementation, the transformation was both technical and emotional. From the introduction of sculptural ceiling features to the installation of bespoke furniture and interactive wall elements, each layer was executed with care and intention. The result is a series of environments that feel alive—where design extends beyond aesthetics into experience.

These playrooms are more than functional spaces—they are expressions of hope. A reminder to every child who enters that joy, imagination, and wonder still belong to them.

03 / Recovery

Rehabilitation & Recovery Centre

The brief called for a space that would accommodate both clinical and residential functions, including consultation rooms, patient bedrooms, recovery spaces, and communal areas, while intentionally moving away from the cold and institutional atmosphere often associated with rehabilitation facilities. The design response focused on creating an environment that feels peaceful, aspirational, and emotionally grounding.

This project was conceived as more than a healthcare environment—it was designed as a restorative sanctuary for adults transitioning from addiction and life on the streets toward healing, stability, and renewed dignity.

A restrained, wellness-inspired palette of warm neutrals, soft textures, and natural wood tones was introduced to establish calm and visual softness throughout the interior. Clean architectural lines were balanced with organic forms, curated greenery, and layered ambient lighting to create a sense of quiet luxury and emotional ease.

Spatial planning emphasized openness, comfort, and dignity. Consultation rooms were designed to feel conversational rather than clinical, while patient suites introduced a hospitality-inspired aesthetic to encourage rest and psychological comfort during recovery. Thoughtfully selected finishes, tactile materials, and subtle biophilic elements reinforce the project's restorative intent.

The result is a rehabilitation environment that supports not only physical recovery, but emotional renewal—an interior designed to restore hope, encourage transformation, and remind its occupants of the beauty and possibility that still lies ahead.
